Lifestyle Modifications and Erectile Dysfunction
Quitting smoking can help remedy Erectile Dysfunction
Quitting smoking can be very difficult and there is no single best way that works for all people. No matter what approach you choose, support from your family and friends is the single most crucial factor.
One approach is to gradually cut back over a few weeks or even months, giving yourself enough time to wean yourself off the addictive effects of tobacco.
Once you quit, avoid places with tobacco smoke. Avoid places where you used to smoke. Keep yourself busy, there is some truth to the old saying, "the idle mind is the devil's workshop".
The nicotine patch, nicotine gum, or other medication that may be prescribed to help you quit can be helpful but they will not take away your cravings to smoke.
Talk to your doctor to see if you should try these techniques. Another approach is to make a clean break. Do not allow yourself to smoke "now and then." An addiction to nicotine can be reactivated anytime, even years after quitting.
Check out the various options, educate yourself. Remember, your sex-life is worth it.
Exercise regularly
- Regular exercise can improve your health in many ways. This is what regular exercise can do for you:
- Strengthen the heart
- Improve the flow of oxygen in the blood
- Build energy levels
- Lower blood pressure
- Improve muscle tone and strength
- Strengthen and build bones
- Help reduce body fat
- Help reduce stress, tension, anxiety and depression
- Boost self-image and self-esteem
- Improve sleep
- Make you feel more relaxed and rested
- Make you look fit and healthy (and increase the chances of your getting some sex in the first place J )
To get the most benefit, you should exercise at least 20 to 30 minutes, three times a week.
Plan a routine that is easy for you to stick to, and then stick to it. Don't plan on doing more things than you can manage. Stick to simple activities first. Don't start with something too strenuous if you are not used to it. Choose an activity you genuinely enjoy. Exercising should be fun, not a burden. Try to make your exercise schedule as varied as possible so that you don't get bored and quit!
Stick with it. If you exercise regularly, it will soon become part of your lifestyle. If you feel you need supervision or medical advice to begin an exercise program, talk with your doctor. Your physical therapist may also be able to help guide you with exercise decisions.
